Stellenbosch University's Engineering Winterweek aims to give high-school learners a glimpse into the engineering profession and into the life of an engineering student at one of the country’s best universities. The learners attending will visit engineering companies in and around Stellenbosch, thereby meeting and interacting with professional engineers in the industry. In addition, the learners will attend a full day of classes on various subjects, presented by the faculty's highly accomplished lecturers, and undertake tours of the faculty's departments and facilities.
Beyond academics, attending learners will get to see and explore Stellenbosch's campus, and get the full student residence experience - roommate included! The learners will cooperate and compete in groups to complete an engineering project and have many opportunities to meet and engage with their fellow future engineers.
The Winterweek programme is intended to equip high-school learners interested in engineering with as much information and first-hand experience of engineering as possible, so that they may make an informed decision about their studies and career. The programme is planned, arranged, and run by a committee of passionate engineering students, many of whom were once Winterweek attendees themselves.

Below you can find a few paragraphs by learners/students who have attended Winterweek. What a wonderful experience you gave our budding young engineers. Many thanks for a well run, well organised, efficient and effective programme. They all seemed to enjoy themselves thoroughly and found it instructive as well. We are well aware of how busy your respective courses are and how much pressure you were all under to organise winter week while preparing for exams at the same time. Thank you for the enormous effort and personal sacrifices that went into the planning and execution of a very successful programme. We really appreciate this wonderful opportunity that would not have been available to our children had it not been for the initiative of the Faculty of Engineering and your student committee. Please pass our thanks on to all your committee members. Warm Regards

I just wanted firstly to thank you and the rest of your team for a most impressive programme. Drew really enjoyed it and got a lot out of it. By all accounts it involved a lot of organising and co-ordinating and its impressive that you did this over and above your normal varsity work. I just wanted to commend you and your team – thank you!

Just to say thank you very much to the Winterweek team. My son, Cale, had a wonderful time and is now very excited about his future studies in Engineering. It has prompted him to work extra hard at school to make sure he can get entrance into the Stellenbosch faculty, which is his first choice.

I would like to express my greatest gratitude for organising and running the 2015 Stellenbosch Winter Week. The event was a phenomenal experience for me and provided both job insight as well as the experience of an engineering student studying at Stellenbosch University. The company visits were particularly interesting for me and I much appreciate the effort you put into organising them. I will be certain to recommend this event to many other pupils as I found it to be an experience that I shall remember for many years to come.
Winterweek 2015 attendee Adam Maguire
Having gone to the Engineering Winter Week myself 3 years ago, I can highly recommend it after all the great experiences I enjoyed! Spending a week with like-minded students and seeing the industry is as much as any aspiring Engineer could as for. In fact, I enjoyed it so much I decided to join the committee to share the experience.
